I thought you would do it, as you made the careless suggestion
of splicing out Workstation and Server sources -- this would be
a way to do it.

For some thought, my running system has circa 600 .o files (excluding
module objects) which likely means that it did need that amount of
.c + .S files, plus some 200-300 .h files. Perhaps 250 .o files are
combined (via other .o and .a files) into the zImage.
