If you pull out the NIC does your drive work OK?

My drives ran slow on 2.0.36 until I disabled all nis in
nsswitch.conf, only keeping dns. It made a world of difference.
Weird but it worked. I got the tip from this list.

If all fails stick with 2.0.36 and be patient
