2.0.0pre3: /proc/cpuinfo is empty

I built pre3 on a P5/120 and a Celeron/300A (with appropriate cpu definitions).
When each is booted, I find that the /proc/cpuinfo file is empty.
All of the other /proc files appear to be correct.
