Apparently not completely. The asm-i386/string.h modifications that allows
the kernel to be compiled on recent versions of egcs aren't in 2.2.0pre1.
They were in recent 2.1.x-ac patches. (FWIW, applying just the string.h
patch from 2.1.132ac3 seems to work.)
