Yep, I get the same problems. Xpert@work 8mb. Here's lspci output for my system:

00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 430FX - 82437FX TSC [Triton I] (rev 02)
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64

00:07.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation 82371FB PIIX ISA [Triton I] (rev 02)
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 0

00:08.0 VGA compatible controller: S3 Inc. 86C764_1 [Trio 32/64 vers 1]
Flags: medium devsel, IRQ 9
Memory at ff000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [disabled]

00:11.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc 215GP [Mach64 GP] (rev 5c)
Subsystem: Unknown device 1002:4750
Flags: bus master, VGA palette snoop, stepping, medium devsel, latency 66
Memory at fe000000 (32-bit, prefetchable)
I/O ports at fc00

Haven't had a problem yet with X, and the standard vesfb works fine.
