I've just compiled the above two kernels and tried to boot them, but I get
the following:

aha152x: trying software interrupt: ok
scsi0: Adaptec 152x SCSI driver $Revision 1.7 $
scsi: 1 host
Vendor: SONY Model: CD-R CDU926S Rev: 1.1a

Kernel Panic: aha152x panic
in swapper task - not syncing

(please forgive if it looks odd, I've had to retype from handwritten
scribbles)

I've tried with the aha152x built into the kernel - the above is what I get

with it compiled as a module, upon insmod or modprobe, i either get a total
lock-up, or the same as above.

my setup is as follows:

Dell Pentium 133 w 64MB ram
hda: 1.2gig Quantum Fireball
hdb: 850meg Quantum
hdc: ATAPI CD-rom
3COM 3c509 port 0x210 int 7
Adaptec AHA1505: port 0x140 int 10
Attached to this is a Sony CDU926S Cd-writer with scsi id 6

Linux is installed on hdb, lilo on MBR

my current stable installation (2.0.36) boots perfectly in this
configuration

any ideas as to what might be wrong? - I can furnish as much information as
you want.
