Well, modern BIOSes can write-protect bootblocks[1]. And it should be
very, *very* hard to change this without physical access to the
machine. Find out what BIOS exactly is used. Then try to play
with nvram accesses and reboot. Just one try is possible.

[1] It could be totally possible that I missed something here
and this only works for accesses thru BIOS ints. My mb docs
aren't clear there.
