Interesting that this should come up. I had a conversation with
Emulex, albeit brief, about 2 weeks ago. In my day job as the Server
Group manager at the local university we had a presentation from
StorageTek about a month ago on SAN's. StorageTek indicated that they
favored using HBA's from Emulex.
When I indicated that I was very interested in seeing Linux play
within a Fibre-Channel or SAN environment our account manager said
that she would put me in touch with someone at Emulex. Someone from
Emulex responded back rather quickly which I took as interest in
seeing a driver happen. This person indicated that they would send me
their AIX source along with an NDA... :-(
I responded back and indicated that I would have a problem with the
NDA from the perspective of my university employment status as well as
from a GPL point of view. My director thought it was a well formed
reply but we haven't heard boo from them since.
I am in a position where I can focus some resources on seeing a
Fibre-Channel driver get done. We will have to see whether or not
Emulex can play in the Open Source sandbox.
