You need to do the following trick (don't ask me why :-)
ifconfig tunl0 192.168.1.2 netmask 255.255.255.255
route add -host 15.188.34.122 dev tunl0
route add -net 192.168.1.0 gw 15.188.34.122
route del -host 15.188.34.122
