I have been trying to use the 2.1 kernels since .120 on this machine, and
every time I try to build a kernel, it compiles fine but I always have two
to four modules with unresolved symbols. I am assuming that the unresolved
symbols are from the kernel since the compile completes correctly.
I have tried many configurations to try to get things to work, and am right
now running on a compile of 2.1.120 in which the modules which won't load
are only related to NFSfs and don't affect the basic usability of the
system for its primary purpose.
Does anybody have any ideas of what to look for? The symbols which are
unresolved (these examples come from the 2.1.120 I am currently running)
have names like "checksignals" (from nfs.o and sunrpc.o) and
"make_8023_client" (from ipx.o) which I think are standard things which
ought to be present. As I write this, I am rebuilding the kernel with
MODVERSIONS turned off to see if that helps, but I really would like to
resolve this problem. I am more than willing to send any information
which might be helpful, but hints of what might be happening (and how to
diagnose the problem) are also gladly accepted.
