Modules difficulty in 2.1.125 - dependencies missed

Hello,

In 2.0.35, it's fine to do "insmod lp" when the printer support which
is supposed to drive a printer connected to the parallel port is
configured as module. In 2.1.125 (also -ac1 and -ac2), it fails
(unresolved symbols) since any part of the kernel tools - be it depmod
or modprobe - fails to recognize it needs parport_pc to be loaded as
well, while insmod correctly loads parport.o before lp.o.

This is my misc/ section of modules.dep, generated by depmod -a (depmod
(Linux modutils) 2.1.85)

/lib/modules/2.1.125/misc/parport_pc.o: /lib/modules/2.1.125/misc/parport.o

/lib/modules/2.1.125/misc/parport.o:

/lib/modules/2.1.125/misc/sunrpc.o:

/lib/modules/2.1.125/misc/lp.o: /lib/modules/2.1.125/misc/parport.o

Is there a way I can work around this problem with a conf.modules
change or is this a bug?
