MO640 AI driver?

I have the next question: Recently I bought a Fujitsu Magnetic Optic
called: Dynamo 640 AI. This is an IDE ATAPI device that writes blocks of
2048 bytes.

Fujitsu wrote me that they do not support the Linux operating system.

The Linux kernel I am using (2.0.31) does not recognize this device.
During booting, it only recognizes the name of the drive :MDD 3064 ATAPI
type 7, drive not recognized.

I patched the kernel with 2048dif-2.0.x from
http://liniere.gen.u-tokyo.ac.jp/2048.html in order to write blocks of
2048 bytes.

I wrote a line in /etc/lilo.conf: append = "hdd=442,16,63" to tell the
kernel the number of sectors, heads and cylinders during booting. (This
are the number of sectors, heads and cylinders the Fujitsu 230 MO M2541B
(IDE) that are automatically detected by the kernel (I am using the 320 MO
on an other Linux box as well)). But the kernel does still not recognize
the Dynamo 640 AI device and its needed parameters.

Please can you tell me if a special IDE/ATAPI driver program is needed for
this device under Linux, does it exist and, if so, where can I find it?
If it does not exist, I would be very interested in such a device, but
I do not have any experience in writing one on my own. Can I ask somebody
to write such a device driver?

Thank you very much in forward,
Gerber van der Graaf
