I have a Brother HL-630 Laserprinter. Normally I don't have any problems
with the ordinary lp drivers (aside from the normal staircase-effect),
but since the 2.1 kernels started with the parport driver in addition to
the lp driver, my printer doesn't react anymore.
When I examined the problem, I noticed that both the parport and lp
module get installed, but they aren't allocated any resources. With
uninstalling and reinstalling the modules no error messages ever pop up.
Also, no error messages are ever written to the /var/log directory.
When I try to print, the system is infinitly waiting for the printer to
become online. Of course, it always is online.
