Why (or Why Not) use SMP Kernels on a 1 CPU Machine?

For the last few months, I've been building my kernels SMP, despite the fact
that the machine is a single-processor P1-233MMX.

Am I on crack, or is there a valid reason for doing so?

Please explain.
