[2.1.124] Alpha + ftape: advice?

Hello,

First, let me say that I'm thrilled to see 2.1.124 boot on my Alpha
Avanti box with TGA framebuffer. Tux looks great! :) One of the reasons
I've really wanted to get 2.1.x running on this system is to use my old
QIC-117 ftape drive. This is the same one I used to use on my Linux/x86
box all the time for backups. Not exactly modern backup equipment, but
beats the heck out of floppies. Anyway, ftape for Alpha in 2.0 is
non-existant. It compiles and loads (as module) on 2.1.x, but I can't get
it to work. I manually load the ftape, zftape and zft-compressor modules.
