>From direct experience I would disagree. There are some vendors whose software
is the valuable part of their product, but in general they want to sell
hardware. The issues arising are often solely "but we dont want people cloning
our device". That one fortunately is not hard to work around. Given a driver
and NDA'd documents folks can fix the driver/kernel stuff easily, but the
same driver isnt enough to build a hardware set that works with all the tools
for a given board
