PATH_MAX * sizeof(char) or PATH_MAX * MB_LEN_MAX ?

Is PATH_MAX a fixed byte limit, or is it adjusted in the kernel code
for multi-byte locales?

(Might be a worth a note on the utf-8 man page.)
