My new SMP box does the same thing with 2.1.120. It hangs straight after
detecting the PS/2 mouse.

Dual PentiumII 300, Supermicro 6DBE, 256MB RAM.

I haven't had time to test with a UP kernel yet.

If I boot a SMP 2.0.36 and then boot 2.1.120 it works fine.
