Sorry to say this but I use sound under linux a lot with my SB AWE64
gold
and I have never once experienced a lock or oops or any other nasty from
any
kernel since 2.1.85 as far as I am concerned the sound code is rock
solid
on the AWE.

I have had programs like amp running large directories of mp3's will
placing
the whole system under heavy loads like compiling kernel and reading WWW
pages via netscape.

This is as compared to NT which crashed every half an hour if using
sound.
