2.0.35, sound not working properly

I am using 2.0.35.
I have a Sound Blaster 32 PnP.
I followed the AWE 32 HOWTO.

When I play a CD it works fine.
But when I try to play a wav/mp3 file it comes out with
very high pitched crap.
Also check this out :

# > cat foo.wav > /dev/dsp
cat: write error: Input/output error
# >

This is a little after it comes out with the high pitched
crap.

PS : This is the first kernel that I tried this sound card with.
