2.1.119, SMP, pppd 2.3.5. PPP will connect first time, kill -1 pppd,
try to reconnect. On the second time it hangs on open of ttyS1 in
'stty sane < /dev/ttyS1'. Using cua1 (even though cua is obsolete)
works. Powering the external modem on and off makes no difference.

#!/bin/sh
PATH=/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin

modprobe ppp

stty parenb cs7 < /dev/${1:-ttyS1}
