I was a bit hasty. Although the problem is reduced, it still happens.
The symptom is total lockup of the computer. It looks like a deadlock
because nothing works, not even SysRq-b.

*sigh* I wish I had the time to track it down.

(Could it be, oh horror, that my CPU is giving out? *shudder*)

No sound, yes networking (DE450 and 3c509). Adaptec AIC-7881U.
