Sounds like your switch is faulty. At least one "major vendor with a digit
in its name" doesnt correctly implement the bridging protocols on some of
their kit and causes continual grief for end users because when it doesnt
know which port something is on, it drops the packet.

"Assigned Numbers" gives the currently recommended TTL
