2.1.106 --> crc error ???

Hello,
just tried updating the Kernel from 2.1.105 to 2.1.106 - 2.1.106
immediately halts the system while uncompressing the kernel ("crc error --
System halted").
I tried recompiling because I assumed it was a harddisk error or
something, but it didn't change anything.
Have there been any changes to the CRC code?
