The problem code is only for 686. New (assembler) code was added to do
the checksum calc. on 686.... why bother? It only gets run once and
doesn't seem slow to me.
The same code was in one of the 'ac-?' patches and didn't seem to cause
problems so i presume that linus has had a mis-patch somewhere.
