2.1.105 problems

Tonight my SMP box crashed again. It still responded to pings and SysReq,
but not to keyboard/mouse/ssh. It showed a blank screen (the X11 screen
saver). There are no entries in the logs. A strange fact is that the
logs seem to stop at about 12:30pm. The crash did not happen before
1:00am (12.5 hours later). I didn't notice any problems before the crash.

The mcdx driver still hangs sometimes when I try to mount a CD during
boot. It still requests 64 sectors from Nirvana. And it still needs
several mount commands to mount a CD successfully.

The good news is that my scanner is now usable with the crap DTCT3181e
card. However it prevents multitasking during preparation of the scan,
eg. the mouse just doesn't move anymore. During the actual scan, the
system appears slow but it does react. Can that be improved?

I've compiled the kernel with pgcc and standard options. Hardware dual
P-200 MMX, IDE disk, SCSI disk on an ASUS SC-200, 128 MB RAM, network
controller ISA NE2000 clone. Kernel config on request.

Regards
hjb
