There are several binfmt_aout formats all handled by binfmt_aout.o module
so it may work for you and not for me because we try it on different
binaries.

Most common binfmt_aout aliases are built into modprobe at compile
time, see depmod/alias.h of 2.1.85 modutils distribution.

However, it appears that the mapping for my particular a.out file
(reported as unknown pure executable, not stripped by file(1)) is
obviously not known to modprobe(8) and I have no idea how to find out the
actual magic number to put in /etc/modules.conf (your 0064 wasn't the
one), short of writing my own a.out-analyzer to look at the header.

I attached the program (gzipped) called hanoi from Byte UNIX-BENCH
distribution that is causing the trouble with autoloading binfmt_aout.
