2.1.104-1 (and lots of older kernels): loopback mistery...

When I do a:

ping -c 1 127.0.0.1

*two* packets are transmitted through the loopback device. This is
confirmed by tcpdump(8), which shows two packets going in and two packets
going out. The packets transmitted and received as shown by ifconfig(8) or
/proc/net/dev tell the exact same story.

Also, a hacked drivers/net/loopback.c:loopback_xmit shows that it is called
twice.

Tracing through net/core/dev.c I can't see any way for this weirdness to
happen.

Any clue?

PS: Please aswer directly too, the list usually works fine for me, but
sometimes it doesn't ;-)
