Personally, I take advantage of the fact that later kernel versions
usually have a later timestamp and do...

Q> ls -alrS

...which quite happily lists the latest version at the end of the
list. This works quite happily with a Linus-based ftp server at the
far end, and has just been added to the Minix ls command, so should
soon work with Minix-based ftp servers as well..
