3c509.c 1.16C is not working as module here (two machines - IBM 6x86MX
(non SMP) and dual P200 (SMP) ). I configure the "3Com 3C509B EtherLink III"
card with isapnp, and then insmod 3c509.o without any options. When it gets
to

ifconfig eth0 ip-number
it immediately starts printing fast, scrolling:
eth0: Too much work in interrupt, status 2011

Hard reboot is the only way out.

I would recommend 1.14 version of the driver, which I have been using here
for months. The "3c509.c:1.12 6/4/97" which is curently in 2.0.33 also works
well, but prints annoying "Waiting for 3c509 to discard packet", so I was
always patching that to 1.14.

I have just checked that 3c509.c:1.16 works OK. (BTW: this version is
displayed on http://cesdis.gsfc.nasa.gov/linux/drivers/3c509.html)

Another problem with 2.0.34pre6: I did "make oldconfig" and something went
wrong with NLS. It was "not set" in .config, but the modules were compilled.
insmoding vfat, msdos, fat etc. results in unresolved symbols
(http://crds.chemie.unibas.ch/linux/config-2.0.34pre6-M1 generated from
http://crds.chemie.unibas.ch/linux/config-2.0.34pre4-M )

I may do some more research if needed.

Best regards,
