chatty 2.1.92 oddities

I brought up a copy of 2.1.92 for a few minutes, and I ran into something
rather odd:

Apr 4 11:16:40 solstice chat[194]: ^M
Apr 4 11:16:40 solstice chat[194]: ERROR^M
Apr 4 11:16:40 solstice kernel: raising capabilities on `sleep'(pid=612) [0801]:5973
Apr 4 11:16:41 solstice kernel: raising capabilities on `date'(pid=613) [0801]:5969
Apr 4 11:16:42 solstice chat[194]: ^M
Apr 4 11:16:42 solstice chat[194]: ERROR^M
Apr 4 11:16:42 solstice kernel: raising capabilities on `ps2display'(pid=614) [0811]:8661
Apr 4 11:16:42 solstice kernel: raising capabilities on `sleep'(pid=616) [0801]:5973
Apr 4 11:16:43 solstice kernel: raising capabilities on `date'(pid=619) [0801]:5969
Apr 4 11:16:43 solstice chat[194]: ^M
Apr 4 11:16:43 solstice chat[194]: ERROR^M
Apr 4 11:16:44 solstice kernel: raising capabilities on `ps2display'(pid=620) [0811]:8661
Apr 4 11:16:44 solstice kernel: raising capabilities on `sleep'(pid=621) [0801]

First off, I'm not sure what to best do about all these nice informative
messages about things running as root. I guess I can rewrite my
front-panel clock (which is mostly a cheap mechanism to tell if the
machine is hung when I can't get anything to happen on the console --
something which seems to have stopped happening since I removed on of
the interior fans). Anyone know future plans for this capabilities
aspect?

Second, has anyone had problems with chat or with the serial
lines under 2.1.92? It worked fine under 2.1.90 (albeit without
a hacked version of the 3c523 driver).

Or do I need to isolate this chat problem myself?

Thanks,
