2.1.92: get_unused_fd: slot 4 not NULL

Before I begin, I should say that I am compiling with gcc 2.8.1. Is this
considered hazardous? If so, is the cause known, or is there just some
suspected miscompilation somewhere?

Also, I am running a UP kernel on a UP system, and had no problems with
2.1.91.
The only patches are to kmod.

As my system completes booting, it runs setserial, which produces the
get_unused_fd message. The slot # is always 4. I never see this message
at any
other time, except for once, when all my boot processes produced it and
I was
forced to reset the system. Is there any likely cause for this?

setserial's lineage is (I think):
/sbin/init
/etc/init.d/rcS (as /bin/sh, which is /bin/bash)
/bin/run-parts
/etc/init.d/rc.boot/0setserial (as /bin/sh)
/bin/setserial

Thanks.
