IDE bug

I've just discovered an interesting IDE problem by compiling the wrong
kernel config.

If I boot 2.0.3x on this box with IDE controller and no devices it sits
for a few seconds then decides I have no IDE and continues. 2.1.91 hangs
forever (or until I got bored of waiting)

Neptune chipset dual P90, no drives in the BIOS.
