How about rolling smbmount/smbmnt (the really clumsy mess that we're using
for 2.1) into a standard mount.smb? Kind of like the way mkfs works.. eg,
wouldn't this be nice:
# mount -t smb //computer/share /mnt/share
Detected win95, enabling bugfixes/core getattr <-- (or whatever) :)

AFAIK, this is the way other unices work? (don't flame me if I'm wrong,
I'm not sure)
This way the standard mount command wouldn't need updating, only the
mount.smb part does. (if at all)
Other tricks such as -o ro should be possible (and not prompt for
password), and if a password is required, a "Password:" prompt is given to
the user.
Is this idea feasable? If not, even going back to the way 2.0 worked
would be better.. eg just smbmount, distributed seperately from samba,
which just works. :)
