Re: 1GB limit - new filesystem or ext3?

Pardon me for being ignorant, but wouldn't it be possible to use unsigned
(i.e. 32-bit) variables instead of 31-bit? That would at least allow 4GB
files. Or is the extra bit/sign used for something?
