Re: GGI Project Unhappy On Linux

I've been watching this argument long enough, it's time for me to leave
lurk mode.

I decided to give GGI the benifit of the doubt quite a few times over the
past year or two. Every once in a while, I go through the trouble of
setting up a seperate tree to patch GGI onto. My observations:

- I have never managed to get 0.0.8 to even patch cleanly to any kernel,
even the ones that it was supposedly patched against.

- 0.0.9 patched cleanly, but it still doesn't compile. I tried patching
against a clean 2.1.90 tree, but that failed immediately. I tried to
change the makefile to force the patch, and it patched cleanly, but did
not compile. OK, I thought, I'll download 2.1.71, which is what the
patch I used was against. Clean patch again, but it still didn't
compile. After examining the (patched) source, I discovered that in
at least one place (dev_console_init in console.c), a structure wasn't
even defined properly. I gave up once again.

- Today I ftp'ed _today's_ GGI snapshot, thinking that maybe the problem
I had has been fixed. The code looks exactly the same as it did in 0.0.9
in the problem area. Maybe I am getting my snapshot from the wrong place,
but that seems unlikely, as I pulled it off of GGI's web site.

I will probably try GGI again someday in the future, but up till now, I have
never gotten it to even _compile_, never mind run. Get your act together! :-)

If I am missing something fundamental, please take it up with me offline. I
see no more need to spam linux-kernel with this war.
