Well, the subject says it all.

While removing a big source tree (a freshly built ghostscript 5.10
distribution) the system became inresponsive on the network
connection I was working from.

On the console everything seems to work, ps worked. BUT when
accessing the IDE disk, that login console too.

SysReq was unable to do anything usefull, the ShowPC function
only showed the kernel was spening time in hard_idle, the
'hlt' to be precise.

No oopses, so no log to investigate :(
Any solutions/pointers?

The system was running a 2.1.87 kernel, with a little
patch for '#define SHM_SWP_TYPE 0x20'. The system is a
64MB Cyrix/200, 6.4GB IDE drive and 40MB swap IDE disk.
ISDN was inactive at that moment.

Met vriendelijke groet,
Pauline Middelink
