According to that logic we should use 'p'. And maybe the RAID stuff would
use 's' if appropriate. A lot of people have been talking about what other
OSes do regarding the choice of naming. BUT we must always consider those
schemes relative to what those names refer to. If machines use partitions
AND slices and 'p' and 's' to name the devices, then we should use 'p' to
be consistent. Otherwise, if we start supporting solaris or SCO partition
tables (SCO also creates one Unix partition and then divisions after that)
we won't be able to name devices!
