Printing problem -- 2.1.xx

I've tried several linux development kernels since 2.1.57, it seems that
none of them allow me to print. lpq shows a list of all my print jobs as
follows:

waiting for crayon to become ready (offline ?)

1st root 3 TODO 135 bytes

The printer's status is ready however. I have an HP DeskJet 550C, it's an
inkjet printer for those of you who don't know it.

Printing works fine under 2.0.3x however.

I checked the Documentation directory in the 2.1.76 (what I run now), and
it says nothing of this problem.

Any info on this problem would be much apprieciated.
