EXT2-fs error - what is this?

Today while booting I got an error on /dev/hdb2 (/var/spool,
fortunately :-), so it asked me to run fsck manually and I did so.
Everything looked ok, but now I got again this message:

Nov 29 08:43:01 penny kernel: EXT2-fs error (device 03:42):
ext2_find_entry: directory #54913 contains a hole at offset 1024

the directory # looks the same as the previous error messages.
What's happening? Linux version was 2.1.65 tonight (the one that first
generated the problem) and 2.1.66 now.

P.S. I've found also this error message in the logs:

This was still 2.1.65 kernel (prior to the reboot, then) and at that
time cron runs some maintainance tasks, primarily on the
/var/spool/news hierarchy
