Linux 2.1.xx and ip_masq

I recently have updated to kernel 2.1.66 on my ip masquerading firewall..
the masquerading howto is mainly for kernel 2.0.xx, I was using 2.0.32
previously with no problems. Now, everything works fine, but I no longer
have ICMP support.. eg, i cannot ping or traceroute with machines on the
local network. Is there anything I can do to enable this? or any
information which directly pertains to the 2.1.xx series?
