Userfs for 2.1.X

Hi!

I would like to ask if there's 2.1.X userfs port and/or if someone
things or writing something similar to userfs. I'm currently thinking
about making userfs work this way:

* create TCP-based network filesystem (I even started writing its
specs, it is at http://atrey.karlin.mff.cuni.cz/~pavel/sifs.html - but
I don't yet know how to do caching of metadata, and spec is evolving
_really_ fast), lets call it sifs
* implement simple sifs client for linux
* implement simple sifs server

And now, we have user filesystems for free: Just mount your local
filesystem over local loopback. I'm thinking about things like
patch < /x/ftp/sunsite.ms.mff.cuni.cz/linux/kernel/patch-2.1.59.gz:ungz
or cp /x/usr/src/linux:tar:gz /tmp/delme.tgz.

If there's some usable filesystem specification, let me know.

If you think that I'm completely wrong, let me know.

If you have already done this, let me know.

If you have some interesting
ideas, let me know!

Pavel
