dcache probs

I don't know if this point has bee raised before (I get the digests and
they disapeared from my ISP's mail server) but yesterday I was deleteing
XFree 3.3.1 source and I got a stack of error messages like so:

Nov 12 17:03:45 mabs kernel: d_alloc: 1250 unused, pruning dcache
Nov 12 17:03:56 mabs kernel: d_alloc: 1249 unused, pruning dcache

these also appear all throughout my syslog (many hundreds of times)

being wary about messages like this I tested the filesystem (which tested
OK) and went to 2.0.32-pre1, which didn't have the problem (no dcache)

Kernel: 2.1.62

Computer:
iP166, 24Mb RAM
HDD's : 1.2 EIDE-Mode 4, 1.0 SCSI-1, 2x50Mb SCSI-2

Patition Layout:
/dev/hda1 /dos
/dev/hda2 /
/dev/hda5 /home
/dev/hda6 /usr
/dev/hda7 /usr/src (Drive I was working on)
/dev/sda1 /debian
/dev/sda4 /usr/pub
(sdb & sdc are swap)
