2.1.62: weird behavior of network

In order to do some reallife (tm) testing of the
2.1.xx series i decided to run 2.1.62 on our proxy
cache server.

Unfortunatly squid 1.1.17-novm has a bug which
let it grow beyond use. The process was something
like 118Mb large when i decided to switch it off:

ps showed:
proxy 148 9.9 81.1 118M4 101M4 ? D 13:49 56:46 squid -D -s -f /etc/squid.conf

Since it wouldn't die of it's own i killed it with -9

restarting didn't work:
Nov 6 23:20:18 CET 1997: RunCache: EXITING DUE TO REPEATED FREQUENT FAILURES

It turned out that some process was still occupying port 8080:
telnet 0 8080
Trying 0.0.0.0...
Connected to 0.
Escape character is '^]'.

although squid wasn't running anymore!

I thought this might be interesting for the guru's out there.
