asynchronous i/o

hi all,

after digging through the mailing list archives, i noticed
there was a significant amount of discussion regarding
implementing asychronous i/o (aio_read, aio_write, etc.)
for Linux.

can someone tell me what the status of this is? and who
are the people involved (if any)?
