in responses to my problem with missing APM in SMP Linuxen I have been
kindly informed by Alan Cox and John Gotts that using SMP-enabled
kernels on uniprocessor machines is not at all recommended.
Then I wonder why "linux/Makefile" defaults to a setting of "SMP = 1",
not after warning me that SMP is experimental, etc.
