Hi all:
I have a P200/32megs with 10 nics, 5 dual PCI SMC EtherPower cards. I'm
using the DE4X5 network driver. 8 of the ethernet ports are in use.
Several of the ports share interrupts. The system is used for routing,
masquerading, and firewalling. The system was running fine for about 1.5 to
2 months then it started to act weird after some minor adjustments to
routes and firewall rules. All available memory is getting sucked up into
the kernel. It takes anywhere from 12 to 36 hours for the machine to just
stop functioning, with a message repeating on the console "ethX: no memory,
packet nuked."

I am guessing that the system is receiving network packets, putting them
in memory, and "forgetting" about them. I have tried to make sure that the
most active network segments are on ether devices that do not share the
same interrupt. I have tried both 2.1.54 and 2.1.57 with the same results.
When I think of it I will look at the results from <shift> scroll lock,
but I'm not really sure how to interpret the data.

I am willing to work with anyone who would like to help. The system is
production so I have limited window to try things. If there are stats or
data that I can be gathering that will help let me know. They system
generated about 200-500 interrupts per second during the day and 1200-2000
in the evening according to vmstat. The system generally dies late at
night or early in the morning.

I could not get the 10 Nics to work under 2.0.30, which was rock solid
with 5 single nics! I understand that this is a development kernel and the
risks that are inherent. I'm just trying to make a great tool even better!
