pre31-10 config problem

When trying 'make menuconfig' I get an error:

ld: cannot open crt1.o: No such file or directory

This occurs right after:

gcc -s -L . lxdialog.o checklist.o menubox.o textbox.o yesno.o inputbox.o
util.o msgbox.o -lncurses -o lxdialog

I also tried 'make config' and got the same error during the sound
configuration process.

Any ideas?
