Patch to cope with many disk controllers/disks?

I thought I saw this come across here a while ago but can't seem to
find it. Is there a way to change over linux's /dev/sdXN disk naming
scheme to one that does not dynamically change if you have more than
one controller in a system (and change disks). ie. one that goes
off of controller id, SCSI id, partition id et al. (/dev/scXsXpX)
or whatnot. ?
