This is a topic of linux-parport@torque.net.

A easy solution is add this line in /etc/conf.modules:

post-install parport modprobe parport_pc

New parport code in 2.1.48 is still unstable if compiled as module. I made
some patch that I posted to Blundell that should fix all bugs.
